DESCRIPTION

"Life as a Meme" is a demo linear narrative game created for the YSEALI game jam, focusing on the theme of cyberbullying. In this emotionally charged interactive experience, players step into the shoes of a teenager named Alan, who becomes a victim of cyberbullying and must find the strength to overcome the challenges faced online.

The game takes place in a contemporary setting where Alan, a bright and ambitious high school student, finds solace in the online world. However, as the story progresses, a malicious individual begins targeting Alan through social media, spreading hurtful messages and engaging in cyberbullying. The once vibrant and confident protagonist starts to experience feelings of isolation, self-doubt, and despair.

As players engage with the game, they become supportive ally to Alan. Through their interactions, they provide emotional support, guidance, and resources to help Alan navigate the turbulent online landscape. The gameplay includes conversations with friends, family members, and supporting characters who offer advice, encouragement, and coping mechanisms.

Throughout the narrative, players witness the devastating effects of cyberbullying on Alan's mental well-being and self-esteem. The game aims to shed light on the importance of recognizing cyberbullying and its potential long-lasting consequences. It emphasizes the significance of having a strong support network and the role each person can play in combating this issue.

To depict emotional journey and growth of Alan, the game employs immersive storytelling techniques, including expressive visuals, evocative music, and thought-provoking dialogue. The interactive elements prompt players to make choices that shape the outcome of the story, illustrating the impact their actions can have on a victim's experience.

"Life as a Meme" ultimately aims to raise awareness about cyberbullying, encourage empathy, and provide players with a sense of empowerment. By supporting Alan and witnessing their personal growth, players learn valuable lessons about resilience, empathy, and the importance of fostering a safe and inclusive online community.
